Tomorrow is another day, another airport… This time we are headed back from the Mallorcan paradise that is Banyalbufar flying from Palma to Gatwick. This post is a throwback to my last trip to Finland. There are probably quite a few reasons Helsinki airport is often referenced as being one of the nicest in the world, and I have another to add to the list! The hot smoked salmon salad at Nordic Kitchen.

After passport control and stocking up on Finnish sweets and drinks, we usually hit up the Nordic Kitchen bar to have a last one for the air… basically me trying to fit in an extra Lonkero (grapefruit flavoured gin longdrink, aka the best drink on tap ever), while the Finn has a final Lapin Kulta (Lapland gold beer). This time around we wanted something light to eat before we took off as well, so after enquiring with the helpful member of counter staff to see which of their salads are gluten free, opted for the smoked salmon. Honourable mention to the Brie too, which looked amazing, with pecans, grapes and Finnish strawberries, but I decided not to risk cheese before the flight.

The salad came in at €18 which might seem on the steep side but it was absolutely enough for both of us, as with pretty much all our Finnish eating adventures the portions are big! There was a generous amount of hot smoked salmon, topped with shaved fennel, and the salad had tiny pieces of red onion and green apple which gave it a really bright fresh feel (I am definitely stealing the apple idea for my own future use, I would never have thought of using it with salmon!

If anyone has a recommendation for GF food in Palma airport, I would love to hear!
